2nd Gen Xbox360, Microsoft Scraps Red Ring
The new Xbox 360 has now scrapped the highly feared Rrod. It’s now been replaced with a new warning/shut down system to help protect your system. Read more after the link.
The red ring of death has been a much-feared bane on the Xbox 360′s existence, signaling complete and utter system failure. It became so problematic earlier in the console’s lifecycle that Microsoft doled out an extended warranty program to those affected. With the second generation slim Xbox 360, Microsoft forgoes the RRoD in favor of a dot outlined in red.
Once a sure-tell sign of failure, the red dot doesn’t exactly mean a unit has gone completely bonkers.Say, if there is insufficient cooling for instance, failsafe routines will kick in and spit out a warning message that notifies an unsuspecting user of a forced shutdown. How thoughtful.
