Unspecified “behind the scenes enhancements” that allegedly improve system performance are also promised, reiterating what numerous updates over the past year have touted. Enticing, right? We jest. If history is any indication, there’s no doubt that hackers are devising a workaround. Regardless, if you value homebrew at all, then it may be wise to wait this one out.

Last but certainly not least, Nintendo has confirmed that its E3 press conference will kick off 9:00 a.m. PST at the NOKIA Theatre on June 15, the same venue as last year.

We already know a portion of the conference will focus on Nintendo’s new-fangled handheld, the 3DS — which still has yet to be officially named. Perhaps we’ll catch a glimpse of the next Legend of Zelda as well.

Beyond those nuggets, there’s ample room for surprises. We’ll be on location to report on all the latest announcements as they come. Stay tuned, the big event is only a month away!

In continuing its Wii-prefixed line of accessible game experiences aimed to appeal to all demographics, Nintendo has lifted the curtain on Wii Party, revealed as part of a Nintendo investor presentation.

Think of it as Mario Party with Miis. Miis will carry a central role in the title, serving as an avatar that identifies players. According to company president Satoru Iwata, Nintendo believes this title will fill the void for a “marquee party game” on Wii.

“The developers are spending significant time for this title so that they can include elements that are must-haves in a party game as well as making sure that adequate volume of game play are available,” noted Iwata.

As if you couldn’t already tell, Nintendo’s hopes are set sky high, which isn’t surprising considering global sales of its Mario Party franchise have hit 7.6 million. Capitalizing on the genre further is a no-brainer. Wii Party is scheduled for a release in the company’s current fiscal year, which ends March 31, 2011. Nintendo of America is keeping mum on a stateside release for the time being.

It’s official — Nintendo is expanding its range of bundled offerings with a new system color to complement its peripheral line-up in North America. That color is of course black.

Priced at $199, the bundle includes both Wii Sports and its MotionPlus-touting sequel Wii Sports Resort. That’s not one, but two games for the same price. Nintendo says the offer will apply to both black and white Wii unit configurations going forward.

Look for the black Wii and its new bundle by association to hit shelves on May 9, as previously foretold by retail leaks.

While those in Japan are fortunate enough to have multiple Wii system colors to choose, pickings are slim in the US. Despite Nintendo releasing Wii peripherals decked in black, white stands as the only system color available over yonder. However, if retail listings are any indication, it looks as if Nintendo plans to complement its peripheral lineup with a black Wii next month. It’s about time, we say.

Sources close to GameStop say a reservation program for a new Wii bundle is scheduled to kick off at the US and Canada-based retail chain early next month, with general availability following on May 9 in the US.

Reportedly, the bundle will be available in black and white variants. The same configuration will hit Canadian locations on May 23, according to a Kotaku report.

It’s official — the wait for Samus Aran’s 2D-3D hybrid outing has inched closer to the end of summer. In a statement released today, Nintendo confirmed that Wii titles Metroid Other M and Sin and Punishment Star Successor have been pushed back to June 27 and August 31 respectively. Hardly surprising, considering delays are a thing of second nature when it comes to the house of Mario.

The confirmation echoes a rumor that cropped up earlier this week by way of retail listings. Look below for the full statement.

Nintendo today updated information for some of its key upcoming software releases, including several new titles that previously had not been dated. Sin & Punishment™: Star Successor and Metroid™: Other M will now launch for Wii™ on June 27 and Aug. 31, respectively.

Word has emerged that a pair of Nintendo’s big-hitters on Wii have been delayed. According to a retail source, Sin & Punishment 2 has been pushed back to June 27, while Metroid Other M sees a more significant delay, now listed as “TBD” according to the same source.

Sin & Punishment 2 was originally scheduled to hit shelves on June 6. In all likelihood it is being held back for marketing reasons, considering Mario Galaxy 2 is scheduled to debut in Europe that same week. The shift to TBD for Metroid Other M leaves us wondering, however.

Retailer Wal-Mart has already updated its inventory to reflect a September 1 placeholder date for Metroid Other M specifically. While we can’t vouch for the source, this change certainly lends credence.

Nintendo has yet to comment.

Old-school, exploration heavy sci-fi FPS Descent will join Nintendo’s WiiWare catalog of downloadable offerings this fall, publisher Interplay announced today.

Originally created by Parallax Software, developer G1M2 is handling the WiiWare version, promising to retain the same classic gameplay that broke new ground in the 3D space 15 years ago with obligatory waggle support added in. Sounds like a winning combination.

“Descent will pair perfectly with the motion sensing Wii Remote controller and we can’t wait to show players how intuitive the game play and control can be,” according to G1M2 founder Scott Hawkins.

Offering a eccentric mix of gunblazing and sword-swinging gameplay, Ubisoft’s MotionPlus-powered sequel Red Steel 2 makes its ascent onto store shelves this week in North America. In commemoration of the occasion, the publisher has sent over a high-octane launch trailer that covers all bases. From up-close-and-personal swordplay to pursing a pack of bandits on motorcycles in a riveting chase, the katana-brandishing protagonist is a busy fellow.

Clocking in at a meager two minutes, we’re of the opinion that the clip nicely sums up why you should shell out the cash for this exceptional Wii title. But hey, don’t take our word for it. See for yourself.
